On Monday, March 10, 2025, in Warsaw, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Deputy Minister Cezary Tomczyk participated in the presentation of the UBM (Ultimate Building Machine) system, acquired by the Polish Armed Forces for the rapid construction of infrastructure facilities. The event was also attended by Daniel Lawton, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Poland, and Miles A. Penland, Vice President of M.I.C. Industries, the manufacturer of the UBM system.
“The Ultimate Building Machine is a device that produces shelters, warehouses, and hangars in a very short time. It processes raw materials and prefabricated elements. It’s like a large printer capable of quickly constructing something that is absolutely essential for the East Shield, and in reality, for many locations across Poland and for our security. The entire philosophy of this deterrence and defense program focuses on building infrastructure that will be useful in times of threat. This infrastructure also includes reinforced concrete blocks, various systems that protect us from the movement of adversary forces, while also facilitating the mobility of our own troops,” said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, referring to the implementation of the East Shield initiative.
“I would like to share some great and exciting news with you. Minister Tomczyk and I are extremely proud that we have the best soldiers, that we cooperate with the best, and that we also have a highly innovative team. (…) Combining the Ultimate Building Machine with the elements patented by our scientists, led by General Sankowski, creates the possibility of rapidly constructing shelters, or even bunkers, resistant to enemy impacts. (…) I would also like to thank General Wawrzyniak because the engineering troops proved themselves during the floods. In a short time, our soldiers were able to build several bridges. Now, in an even shorter time, thanks to Polish-American cooperation, they will be able to set up shelters, warehouses, and protective structures and develop spaces that will also serve air bases,” announced Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
On January 12 of this year, the 2nd Regional Logistics Base signed an agreement with the American company M.I.C. Industries for the purchase of Ultimate Building Machine (UBM) systems. The UBM is a machine designed to produce steel-framed structures. This “factory on wheels” (with the main unit or execution module mounted on a two- or three-axle trailer) is capable of manufacturing steel structural components for buildings (such as hangars, halls, and warehouses) in a matter of days rather than weeks or months.
“On March 17, Polish officers will travel to the United States to begin training on this machine, which, as Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz put it, is essentially a ‘bunker factory’—because that is exactly what it is. This contract, worth several hundred million PLN, is a fundamental investment in Poland’s security. As Polish generals confirmed today, this equipment will arrive in Poland as early as May and will be used to strengthen our borders. Step by step, Poland’s eastern and northern borders will become the most secure in the region,” emphasized Deputy Minister Cezary Tomczyk.
The UBM machine is designed for transport by road, rail, sea, and air, allowing deployment anywhere in the world. A small team of just 10–12 workers can produce and assemble a 930-square-meter (10,000-square-foot) structure in a single day.
The acquisition of UBM machines is part of the National Deterrence and Defense Program – East Shield. It provides the capability for rapid construction of shelters, adapted to various terrain conditions, as a key element of protection for both military forces and civilians.
