On Monday, September 8, 2025, Rosomak S.A., located in Siemianowice Śląskie and belonging to the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), announced on social media that a delegation from South Korea’s military governmental institutions had visited the plant on September 4.
As stated in the brief press release, the company’s headquarters in Siemianowice Śląskie was visited by high-ranking representatives of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) of the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Korea, as well as the Defence Agency for Technology and Quality (DTaQ). The former is responsible for defense procurement and the modernization of South Korea’s armed forces, while the latter oversees the quality and certification of military technologies. The delegations were accompanied by the Defense Attaché of the South Korean Embassy in Warsaw, Colonel Park Young-hoon.
The visit was organized at the request of the Korean side and aimed at exchanging technological experience and presenting Rosomak S.A.’s production capabilities.
The foundation of the cooperation between the Korean defense industry and Rosomak S.A. is the Light Reconnaissance Vehicle (LPR) Legwan program, which is a Polishized version of KIA Corporation’s KLTV.
It is worth adding that on August 27 and 22 of this year, Rosomak S.A. signed two agreements: amendments to the contracts concluded in 2023 with the aforementioned KIA Corporation under the LPR Legwan program, as well as a contract for the delivery and completion of more than 380 communication-equipment sets from the American company L3Harris Technologies.
The LPR Legwan vehicles entered service with the Polish Armed Forces on December 23, 2024, first with the 20th Bartoszyce Mechanized Brigade. Approximately 17 LPR Legwan units arrived in Poland from the Republic of Korea in two batches: on April 16 (likely 3 units) and on August 2, 2024 (14 units). They were first delivered to Rosomak S.A. for local adaptation and then sent for acceptance testing at the Wisła Test and Evaluation Center of the Military Institute of Armored and Automotive Technology (WITPiS) in Sulejówek.
On August 14, 2023, a contract was signed between the Armament Agency and the PGZ–Rosomak consortium for the delivery of nearly 400 LPR Legwan Light Reconnaissance Vehicles in a 4×4 configuration, with deliveries planned for 2024–2030. The value of the contract is approximately 1.2 billion PLN (gross).
Meanwhile, on September 3 of this year, during the 34th Economic Forum (“A Time of Transformation – What Will the Europe of the Future Look Like?”), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that a contract with Rosomak for more than 1,000 vehicles is forthcoming. This aligns with Rosomak’s statement from August 22 regarding the planned signing of a framework agreement with the Armament Agency under the LPR Legwan program.
So far, the delivered vehicles are armored variants which, according to the manufacturer, provide crew and passenger protection at Level 2 (7.62×39 mm API) or Level 3 (7.62×51 mm AP) in accordance with STANAG 4569. They are also equipped with a rotating weapon mount that allows the installation of a 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm machine gun, or a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher.
The baseline LPR Legwan is powered by a Hyundai D6EB 225 hp diesel engine paired with an automatic transmission and features fully independent suspension on all axles. The modernity of the design is underscored by the use of an eight-speed automatic gearbox, a central tire inflation system, and a run-flat capability enabling continued movement after tire puncture. The vehicle’s gross weight is approximately 5.7 tons, allowing it to fill the gap between light vehicles with a GVW of up to 3.5 tons and heavier platforms based on the Waran 4×4 chassis.
Meanwhile, during last week’s 33rd International Defense Industry Exhibition MSPO at Targi Kielce, the PGZ stands featured the premieres of the LPR Legwan equipped with the Polish C-UAS HAWK counter-drone system, as well as the extended Legwan-L variant fitted with the SAHIN 40 mm grenade launcher.
