The U.S. State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Poland of 180 FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missiles and 79 Javelin Command Launch Units (CLUs) and related equipment for an estimated cost of $100 million (385 million Polish Zloty).

The intention to procure a number of Javelin anti-tank missiles and CLUs was announced in 2019, when the Polish Ministry of Defense (MoD) sent a letter of request (LoR) to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) regarding the possible transaction.
The future contract would also include provision of Basic Skill Trainers, Missile Simulation Rounds, Battery Coolant Units, tool kits, modified 2-level maintenance parts, training, U.S. Government and contractor technical assistance, transportation and other related elements of logistics support.
Javelin anti-tank missile systems will be distributed among various units of the Territorial Defense Force (Wojska Obrony Terytorialnej, WOT), the 5th branch of the Polish Armed Forces.
According to the Polish MoD, acquisition of Javelin missile systems will allow the Territorial Defense Force to supplement regular Army units on the battlefield, which have been more commonly operating Rafael’s Spike family of anti-tank missiles.
