Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Thanks to this amendment, Allied countries working in close coordination with NSPA will make joint purchases and, under the new arrangements, they will cooperate on the warehousing of all types of air munitions. This marks a significant expansion of cooperation in this field, which will be of great benefit both in saving money in view of prospective joint purchases and in further deepening the interoperability of Allies.”
As part of this procurement project, Slovakia envisages buying, among others, munitions for F-16 multi-role fighter jets in the future. Such acquisition of munitions will depend on the use of the munitions supplied under the F-16 fighter jets contract and the needs of the SVK Armed Forces, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď added.
The NATO project on the multinational procurement of Air-to-Ground Precision Guided Munitions (PGMs) was initiated by Denmark in 2014, with Slovakia joining the NATO PGM initiative in 2019. Currently, a total of 14 participating countries are involved in the project.
