On Saturday, February 8, 2025, the Armed Forces Support Inspectorate (IWsp SZ) announced on social media that M1240A1 M-ATV (MRAP-All Terrain Vehicle) mine-resistant vehicles have been sent to the Polish Military Contingent (PKW) KFOR in Kosovo, where they will replace BRDM-2 armored vehicles.

The Armed Forces Operational Command (DO RSZ) decided to transfer M1240A1 M-ATV vehicles to PKW KFOR and assigned the Armed Forces Support Inspectorate (IWsp SZ) and the Technical Services Directorate the task of defining the scope of adaptation work and determining the necessary modifications to ensure that the vehicles meet military and road standards, as well as the expectations of Polish soldiers operating in challenging terrain conditions in the mission area. The tasks were then distributed among the appropriate units.
The task of adapting the vehicles, manufactured by the American company Oshkosh Defense, for the 51st rotation of PKW KFOR was assigned to the 52nd Repair Battalion of the 1st Pomeranian Logistics Brigade. The work included technical condition assessment, replacement of installations and equipment components, and the application of a new camouflage pattern.
The transport section of the 1st Pomeranian Logistics Brigade (1. BLog.) supervised customs formalities and transportation arrangements, while the 1st Regional Logistics Base (1. RBlog.) ensured the execution of transport in cooperation with a private company via land routes.
After the adaptation process was completed and the vehicles were transported to Kosovo, soldiers from the National Logistic Support Element (detached from 1. BLog.) handled the reception, registration, and further distribution of the equipment to the manoeuvre company of PKW KFOR, which plays a key role in maintaining stability in Kosovo.
M-ATV
On July 12 last year, the 1st Pomeranian Logistics Brigade announced the receipt of several dozen M1240A1 M-ATV vehicles, intended for adaptation to meet the requirements of the Polish Armed Forces and missions abroad.
The vehicles were ordered on July 31, 2023, under the EDA (Excess Defense Articles) procedure. As a result, in October, a selection of 79 units was made as part of the Joint Visual Inspection (JVI) process. The delivery of all units was completed on January 6, 2024.
Previously, the Polish Special Forces operated 45 vehicles of this type, which were assigned to Agat Military Unit (39 vehicles) and Commando Military Unit (6 vehicles). These used vehicles were donated free of charge by the U.S. Department of Defense in February 2015 under the EDA (Excess Defense Articles) procedure, initiated in 2014. They were delivered to the Special Forces in the spring of 2016. Interestingly, Nil Military Unit, which, as the contracting authority, is responsible for the maintenance of these vehicles (handled by Rosomak, which has a partnership with Oshkosh Defense), had launched a procurement process for vehicle modifications. However, the procedure was canceled on June 13 last year due to the rejection of the initial bid.
On October 4, 2024, the 4th Regional Logistics Base announced the results of a tender process for the supply of heated bulletproof armored windows with frames for vehicles. The winning bid was submitted by the Czech company SVOS, spol. s.r.o..
The vehicles are based on a modified chassis of the MTVR (Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement) truck. Their development was influenced by previous operational experience in Iraq and Afghanistan, where mine-resistant vehicles, primarily Cougar and MaxxPro, were used. The Cougar vehicles were also acquired by the Polish Armed Forces.
