The Polish Ministry of Defense (MoD) confirmed the planned acquisition of a number of Javelin anti-tank missile systems. ‘We’ve just concluded negotiations for the procurement of 60 Javelin Command Launch Units (CLUs) and 180 Javelin anti-tank missiles. The contract should be signed shortly’, said Mariusz Blaszczak, the head of the Polish MoD, on Twitter.

FGM-148 Javelin missile systems will most likely be operated by selected anti-tank subunits of the Territorial Defence Forces stationed in the East of the country.
New anti-tank missile systems will be procured through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS). No offset agreement or transfer of technology will accompany the deal. The FMS sale of Javelin missile systems was approved by the U.S. State Department in March (Javelin for Poland, 2020-03-05).
The intention to procure a number of Javelin anti-tank missiles and CLUs was announced in 2019, when the Polish MoD sent a letter of request (LoR) to the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) regarding the possible transaction.
According to DSCA the future contract would also include provision of Basic Skill Trainers, Missile Simulation Rounds, Battery Coolant Units, tool kits, modified 2-level maintenance parts, training, U.S. Government and contractor technical assistance, transportation and other related elements of logistics support.
