VX-5HD scopes were created to fill the gap between VX-3i and VX-6HD series. In response to shooters expectations, Leupold decided to introduce 3 magnification ranges – 1-5×24, 2-10×42 and 3-15×44 (available also in 56 mm diameter). All variants use one piece, aluminum tube,30 mm diameter, which is compatible with most modern type of mounts.

According to Tim Lesser, the company vice-president, responsible for product development, new sights were introduced mostly to provide for hunters operating in rough terrain while pursuing big game, which was the main reason behind compact design and specialized lens coating of new sights. Coating ensures good light permeability in all lighting conditions and reduces flares in full sun.

Control knobs move the POA by 1/4 MOA for each step and can be locked in position. Correction adjustment for various types of ammunition is also simplified. New scopes will be available with Duplex, Fire Dot 4, Wind Plex, Boone and Crockett, Big Game and Impact-29MOA reticles.
