On the 17th of April Saab and the Polish Nauta Shiprepair Yard, a member of the PGZ (Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa), held a launch ceremony of the Signal Intelligence (SIGINT) vessel constructed for the Swedish Navy, the future HMS Artemis. The ship should be handed over by 2020.

Ceremony took place at the premises of the PGZ Stocznia Wojenna in Gdynia, with the presence of a number of high ranking officials from Saab, the Swedish Navy, Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), Swedish National Defence Radio Establishment (FRA), the Embassy of Sweden in Poland, PGZ and Nauta shipyard as well as members of the Polish Parliament and representatives of the local administration.
This is a great milestone that we’re celebrating today with the launch of the Swedish special purpose ship. It is not just any ship. It is a national key asset, built on the experience gathered during the last four decades by her older sister, HMS Orion, and years of design and study by Swedish authorities together with Saab said the company’s senior vice president, head of business area Kockums, Gunnar Wieslander.
Nauta’s involvement in the construction of the future HMS Artemis is a result of a special agreement signed late 2016 between Saab and PGZ, which set grounds for cooperation in planning and delivery of naval programmes between two entities.
The launch of a ship is a very important element of the process of vessel construction, both for the shipyard as well as for the contracting authority. (…) The ship that you see is an example of great cooperation between Saab Kockums and the shipyards being part of PGZ, i.e. Nauta shipyard and Stocznia Wojenna and all our cooperating entities, including companies from the capital group of Stocznia Nauta, MMC Marine Design, HG Solutions, Fast, Hydromega and all others who have been part of this common endeavour admitted Adam Potrykus, CEO of the Nauta Shiprepair Yard.
As a follow-up to today’s ceremony the 74 meters long HMS Artemis, which in the future will displace 2,200 tonnes, will now undergo outfitting, followed by the first series of trials. Subsequently, the vessel will be transported to Saab’s shipyard in Karlskrona for the installation of special purpose equipment and sea acceptance trials.
