The aviation industry is facing unprecedented challenges, from increasing air traffic density to rapid technological advancements and heightened security concerns. To meet these demands, Rohde & Schwarz is announced the launch of the latest generation CERTIUM VCS – an advanced solution for air traffic control communications, built on more than 10 years of experience in VoIP technology.
CERTIUM VCS is a quad-redundant, IP based voice communications system that integrates perfectly into the entire CERTIUM portfolio for safe, secure and efficient airspace operations. It combines a state-of-the-art, flexible and resilient IP based architecture with strong security mechanisms. It is flexible enough for both small towers and nationwide systems with multiple area control centers and hundreds of controller working positions. CERTIUM VCS has advanced functions that can support remote digital tower systems or connect area control centers to virtual centers for quick and flexible transfers between centers and even countries.
With CERTIUM VCS air traffic control centers can now enjoy seamless cross-center cooperation, enabling more efficient and effective communications between different control centers and airports. The system’s virtual center feature allows multiple VCS systems to be combined, creating a single, unified communications platform accessible from anywhere.
Additionally, the new CERTIUM VCS supports private cloud deployments, which lets customers run key applications like radio and telephony servers on their own cloud infrastructure to give them more control and flexibility. And the system’s dual-homing capabilities ensure that critical communications services are always available, even in the event of a network failure or disaster, by automatically switching to a redundant network connection. This lets air traffic controllers and pilots continue to communicate safely and efficiently, even in the most challenging situations.
Having a modern and fully-fledged second voice communications system that can be utilized not only in case of emergencies but also during planned maintenance or other events is central to ATC operations across Canada and provides even greater safety, efficiency and resiliency into the future, said Mark Cooper, President and Chief Executive Officer, NAV Canada.
