Enforce Tac 2019 became the venue, where European premiere of Cloud Defensive’s OWL flashlight took place. OWL stands for Optimized Weapon Light. This interesting tactical light source for carbine/rifle sized firearms had its world premiere at SHOT Show 2019.

After the world premiere in January during SHOT Show 2019, Cloud Defensive OWL flashlight debuted at Enforce Tac in Nuremberg

OWL is a Picatinny mounted flashlight with 1250 lumens and 50 000 candelas of light intensity. It was designed by shooting professionals and seems to address most common problems with firearm mounted flashlights.

The body, mount, and the switch are all integrated into one chunky flashlight. This helps with common issues occurring with cable-connected switches. OWL’s on/off control is located on the mount’s ridge and has 2-mode functionality. Quick touch cycles the light on and off while a longer grasp allows for momentary illumination.

With the body, switch, and mount integrated into one piece, the flashlight can be placed in an optimal location on the firearm

OWL does not require any additional tools when fixing to the firearm. Case closure is equipped with a special tool which fits the mounting bolt. The new flashlight is also modular and can be adapted for left- and right-handed shooter in a matter of seconds.

Thanks to special latches, OWL can be easily reconfigured for left-handed shooters

Flashlight operation, even when alternating between strong and weak sides, is comfortable and problem-free. Elements are latched together and the whole light is waterproof. OWL’s manufacturer claims that it can be submerged at 60 m for 20 hours without any negative effect. The flashlight is also IPX8 compliant. Flashlight elements are joined with latches so there should be no problems with damaged threads over time. Despite its chunky look and feel, OWL is light – only 311 g with 18650 battery.

OWL is powered by 18650 battery that’s gaining popularity an offers better performance than CR123A. /Photos: Karol Szczęśniak

Suggested retail price is 400 USD. At present, OWL is available only on the American market in black, gray, and olive color variants. Special versions for one of the resellers include FDE color and Multicam Black camouflage. A detailed review will be available in MILMAG Military Magazine in the near future.

Team Wendy, which specializes in head protection equipment, presented in Nuremberg a new, lightweight head protection system based on the Ballistic SL helmet.

<img decoding="async" src="http://milmag.pl/2021/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wendy-et_01.jpg" alt="Two variants of Exfil head protection system were presented by Team Wendy during ET2019.
Two variants of Exfil head protection system were presented by Team Wendy during ET2019. Wide range of mounting accessories allows for easy fitment of additions such as visors, face protectors, cameras, lights, IR markers, or identification markers

The Exfil system consists of the year-old Ballistic SL helmet, ballistic visor, and a face protection. The face cover is available in 2 version – ballistic and protective. These were shown in Europe for the first time during the ET2019. The set was shown in Ranger Green color and Multicam camouflage. Exfil is extremally lightweight, it masses only 1802 g for the size 2. The Ballistic SL helmet weights 1010 and 1050 g for each of 2 available sizes. The head protection has the Cam Fit system which allows for exact adjustments for user’s head and the Zorbium foam padding provides additional comfort.

The new SL siderails are 25% lighter than the last model / Photos: Karol Szczęśniak

The NIJ IIIA class helmet has proprietary side rails and optoelectronics socket developed by American Wilcox company. The new model of the socket was lightened by 35%, when compared to last year’s version. The side rails are 25% lighter and allow for fitment of additional equipment such as Team Wendy visor or the face protection. The visor weights 158-162 g, depending on size. The visor’s transparent material is made by the ESS company and fulfills the MCEP standards for strike and shrapnel protection.

The face protection is available in the ballistic version which weights 590 g and in non-ballistic version which weights 320 g. Both versions come with either ventilated or ballistic nose part. Material’s flexibility enables the wearer to aim rifles/carabines quite comfortably. All elements are available in black, Coyote Brown, and Ranger Green. Multicam camouflaged parts can be ordered as well.

An innovative virtual reality training system called GAIM was presented by Aimpoint during the 2019 Enforce Tac exhibition.

Artykuł ET2019: GAIM’s virtual reality training pochodzi z serwisu MILMAG.

Aimpoint presented a new virtual reality training system during the 2019 Enforce Tac exhibition. This innovative solution is based on proprietary GAIM software and allows for total immersion into the training scenario. System`s user wears VR equipment consisting of special head display and headphones. This cuts out the real-world signals and enables total immersion effect. Another part of the system is a weapon-mounted electronics package which communicates with the software.

System is available in 2 versions which allow for simultaneous training of 3 or more people. /Photo and video: Jarosław Lis

The trainee can move within a designated training area so he/she can get away with some negative VR effects known from other simulators. Those are usually caused by conflicting information received by the wearer`s brain: the eyes inform about body movement while, in reality it remains stationary. The firearm used by the trainee is mirrored in the VR world, so are the weapon`s movements and aiming.

Sound and graphics of the GAIM system are of high quality and resemble a modern computer game. There were 3 room-clearing scenarios available at the Enforce Tac. Due to time limits, demonstration scenarios were short, yet still surprised with complexity, unpredictability and reality.

The presented system can be used by up to 3 people simultaneously. There is also an extended version where each trainee wears a backpack-mounted system. This variant allows for much bigger training area and ability for more people to take part. GAIM`s system shows how the computer games will look in few year`s time. At present, the VR system is a great tool for situational awareness and response training.
