Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals
On Tuesday, September 9, the second day of the 34th International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO 2026) at Targi Kielce, Zakłady Chemiczne Nitro-Chem signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals, opening a new chapter in the field of advanced materials technologies.

The common objective is to develop, manufacture, characterize and implement innovative aluminum and aluminum-alloy powders for direct use in modern defense compositions.
The cooperation will focus on advanced research and development, as well as materials and application testing of the novel TBX-V (Thermobaric Explosives) high-explosive composition. This advanced thermobaric material has been designed for the effective destruction of temporary and permanent structures, including fortifications and hardened positions. In addition, it is intended to incapacitate personnel both inside such structures and in open terrain, primarily through the powerful effects of an air blast wave generating a significantly higher overpressure impulse than conventional non-metalized explosives.
Karol Przybyszewski, President of the Management Board, added:
“The primary operational objective of this agreement is to develop a production technology for a cast TBX-V thermobaric composition designed specifically for M21 rocket warheads. Crucially, from the perspective of strategic independence and security of supply, this advanced product will be manufactured using our own Polish raw materials in the form of RDX and HMX. Combining Nitro-Chem’s unique production expertise with the Institute’s extensive scientific and research capabilities will enable the efficient commercialisation of research results and the implementation of solutions that will bring a new level of capability to the modern battlefield.“
Institute of Organic Industry
On the second day of the exhibition, Wednesday, September 9, the development of the UNIPeX universal plastic explosive was announced, carried out in cooperation with the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Organic Industry.

As stated in the press release:
“Product development is one of the key elements of our strategy – we are constantly seeking new solutions in response to changing market needs and the expectations of our partners. Thanks to investments in research and development and cooperation with scientific institutes, particularly the Institute of Organic Industry of the Łukasiewicz Research Network, we are consistently expanding our capabilities and strengthening Nitro-Chem’s position as a modern manufacturer for the defense sector.”
New products mean more than just new solutions — they represent another step toward building technological advantage and security.
UNIPeX is a modern high-energy material developed entirely in Poland, using domestic raw materials, technologies and production equipment. It is a breakthrough project that strengthens the country’s technological independence and builds strategic capabilities in the field of security and defense.
Karol Przybyszewski, President of the Management Board, said:
“Our new product – the UNIPeX universal plastic explosive – is made entirely from Polish components and was designed by Polish engineers and technologists. UNIPeX responds to the needs of the global market for plastic explosives intended for the armed forces of NATO countries and uniformed services. It enables the effective, safe and easy performance of demolition and EOD tasks, including the disposal of unexploded ordnance and explosive remnants. It also constitutes an important tool for Special Forces.”
The new UNIPeX material will have a detonation velocity of at least 7 km/s and will retain user-friendly plasticity at temperatures ranging from –40 to +70°C. It can be initiated using all types of detonators employed by the Polish Armed Forces and the armed forces of NATO countries. It will also offer a high level of operational safety, including resistance to heavy machine-gun fire, and, importantly, will not transition to detonation when burning.
Production will be launched at Zakłady Chemiczne Nitro-Chem in Bydgoszcz in 2027, based on key components manufactured on site. Nitro-Chem’s strategy is based on integrating various institutes from the civilian and military sectors, creating unique capabilities in the processing of explosives and the manufacture of explosive-filled products. As a leading producer of explosives, the company is seeking to offer them increasingly in the form of finished products rather than continuing the previous practice of selling raw materials to other manufacturers.
