On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, PGZ Stocznia Wojenna, part of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), announced on social media that it had delivered the modernized Project 207M Mamry-class minesweeper ORP Wigry (644) to the Polish Navy.

This is already the fourth vessel of the type to be returned to the customer ahead of schedule, following ORP Necko (639), ORP Nakło (640) and ORP Mamry (643). The contract for intermediate and dockyard repairs of ORP Wigry was signed with the Świnoujście Naval Port Command together with ORP Drużno. Both vessels serve with the 12th Minesweeper Squadron of the 8th Coastal Defence Flotilla in Świnoujście (PGZ and Nauta to repair more Project 207P minesweepers).
In the case of ORP Wigry, the work included an extensive modernization involving the replacement of the main engines together with their gearboxes. The entire shipboard power plant was also replaced, including generator sets, main switchboards and ship automation systems, in other words the complete Power Management System (PMS). The underwater warfare systems were repaired, while the vessel was fitted with new compressors and shipboard systems adapted to the new equipment, including modern navigation and communications systems. In addition, a VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) satellite communications system, a new workboat and a sweep-wire float storage facility were integrated.
„Despite challenges in the supply chain, the schedule was shortened. Acceptance trials confirmed the high quality of the work. The modernization of Project 207 minesweepers maintains the Polish Navy’s mine countermeasures capabilities until the entry into service of Project 258 Kormoran II vessels” – PGZ Stocznia Wojenna emphasized in a press release.
ORP Wigry was launched on November 29, 1992, while the ceremonial raising of the Polish Navy ensign took place at the Hel naval base on May 14, 1993. The ship’s sponsor was Maria Buczma. The vessel has repeatedly participated in international exercises as well as operations conducted as part of routine service.
