MILMAG: What is the current corporate structure of the Gevorkyan Group, and what is the role of Gevorkyan Force Defence within the Group?
GEVORKYAN: Currently, we have a highly optimised corporate structure for the European market. One of our R&D centres operates in Vienna through GEVORKYAN GmbH, while our production is concentrated in two manufacturing plants: GEVORKYAN, a.s. in Slovakia and Gevorkyan Sinteris Italia in Bologna, Italy.
For the defence industry, we have established specialised branches under Gevorkyan Force Defence last year, with operations in both Slovakia and Kraków, Poland. At present, our Polish subsidiary is focused primarily on the development of new applications and incoming projects, supporting the Group’s activities and further expansion in the defence sector.

M: Which technologies used by Gevorkyan have been certified for defence production?
G: GEVORKYAN operates under several internationally recognised standards that are especially relevant to aerospace and defence production. One of the key ones is AS9100, which is specifically focused on quality management in these industries. We also hold ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 27001 for information security, which is becoming increasingly important when working on sensitive industrial and defence-related projects. At the same time, we are also progressing with requirements related to AQAP 2110, the NATO quality assurance standard for design, development and production.
In terms of technologies, we offer conventional powder metallurgy based on compacting and sintering, including machining, heat treatment and other secondary operations. We also use Metal Injection Moulding (MIM), with all necessary secondary operations, as well as 3D printing for prototypes and small-series production.
In general, our approach is not just to deliver one manufacturing step. We provide our customers with finished components and take full responsibility for all the operations needed to bring each part to the final specification they require.
M: What was a reason to locate GEVORKYAN department at the Italian market?
G: The main reason was the opportunity to further strengthen GEVORKYAN’s presence in one of Italy’s key industrial regions. We acquired a company located in the industrial heart of the country, with a decades-long tradition and a strong customer base. Its portfolio already includes several important players from the arms manufacturing industry, which creates natural synergies with our own customer base and capabilities. We are already seeing new projects developing from these connections, and our existing contacts within the Italian defence industry give us additional opportunities to build on this position. Having a production plant directly in Italy also allows us to act as a local supplier and stay closer to these customers.
M: What activities is GEVORKYAN currently conducting in Italy and what is the development potential of the Italian department?
G: At the moment, our main focus is on optimising cooperation between the two production plants in Slovakia and Italy. One of the key objectives of the acquisition was to make better use of the technical capabilities, production capacities and know-how available in both locations and to combine them more efficiently across the Group. Going forward, we expect production volumes to increase at both plants as we continue to develop this cooperation.
M: What does GEVORKYAN’s cooperation with major defence industry companies currently look like, and how do you see this cooperation developing in the near future?
G: Today, GEVORKYAN is already a supplier for important strategic projects for several defence manufacturers across Europe, including companies in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. We have the technologies and production capacities required for serial production of components used in ammunition in calibres 30, 40, 105 and 155 mm, among other applications. At the same time, it is important to stress that our main development remains focused on our core business. We are not an arms manufacturer. Our role is to provide technical solutions, technologies and immediately available production capacities to defence companies. We want to be their technology and manufacturing partner, not their competitor.
M: Beyond these applications, where else do you see potential for GEVORKYAN’s technologies?
G: Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are definitely one of the areas where we see significant potential for further business development. One of our key advantages is the ability to work with lightweight materials, which is particularly important for such applications. Thanks to the long-term investments we have made over the past several years, we are also able to develop and produce our own material compositions. This gives us a high degree of vertical integration, from material development and the selection of the right manufacturing technology all the way to the delivery of finished components.
M: What are GEVORKYAN’s business activities in the Polish market, and what are the company’s plans for the future?
G: There is significant potential in the Polish market, where GEVORKYAN has had a presence for decades through long-standing customer relationships. Today, the growing opportunities Poland offers are also linked to the development of the local defence industry. This is why we have established an R&D centre in Poland, focused mainly on the development of new applications and projects. In the future, depending on how these activities develop, we also see potential to expand our presence in Poland with local production capabilities. Cooperation with local partners and research institutions will also remain an important part of this process.
M: You mentioned cooperation with local research institutions as an important part of your development in Poland. Can you give us an example of such cooperation?
G: One example is the developing cooperation with the Military University of Technology (WAT) in Warsaw. The planned activities are focused on research into a relatively low-cost 3D printing technology for metal components, with a focus on stainless steel and its comparison with more advanced 3D printing technologies. At the same time, we are looking at further opportunities to develop similar cooperations across all the markets where the GEVORKYAN brand is present.
M: Thank you for the conversation.
